AMERICA’S #1 RANKED FEMALE CHESS PLAYER
ATTEMPTS TO SET WORLD RECORD AT THE GARDENS MALL

Palm Beach Gardens, Florida - On Monday, August 1 at The Gardens Mall Grandmaster Susan Polgar will attempt to play the greatest number of chess games at the same time for a Guinness World Record. Ranked the number one female chess player in the world at the age of 15, Polgar is working to add another record to her long list of accomplishments.

Beginning at 10 a.m., Polgar will play chess players ranging in age from 7 – 94 from throughout Florida, and from as far away as Georgia, for an estimated 24-hour period. Polgar will observe each opponent’s move, then respond with her move before moving to the next competitor. She must win 80 percent of the games to set the Women’s World Record. In addition, VIP’s such as Palm Beach Gardens Vice Mayor Eric Jablin will participate in the event.

Polgar is a pioneer in women’s chess, an ambassador to the game, and a role model to millions of young women worldwide. She is the founder of the Susan Polgar Foundation, a non-profit organization that promotes chess to young people, especially girls.

Her record includes:

  • 4-time Women’s World Chess Champion
  • The only World Champion in history (male or female) to win the Chess Triple Crown 5-time Olympic Champion with 10 overall medals, and has never been defeated in Olympiad competition
  • Currently holds a record 56 consecutive Olympiad game-scoring streak without a loss

"Grandmaster Susan Polgar’s World Record Chess Challenge” is presented by Joel Channing, Chairman of Channing Corporation, Director of the U.S. Chess Trust and Member Elect of the U.S. Chess Federation, as well as Donald Schultz, Member of the Executive Board and Past President of the U.S. Chess Federation.

"Don Schultz and I are proud to have brought this event to Palm Beach Gardens,” said Channing. “Playing chess accomplishes many things: it sharpens the intellect, it encourages patience, and it unlocks the imagination. It is an experience of self-discovery. The value of learning and playing chess, especially among children, leads to greater self-esteem.”

Supporting organizations for the World Record chess challenge include the Susan Polgar Foundation, the U.S. Chess Trust, The Gardens Mall, Northern Palm Beaches Chamber of Commerce, PGA Corridor Association, Boca Raton Chess Club, Palm Beach County Sports Commission, The Palm Beach Post, Florida Coca-Cola Bottling Co., Palm Beach Gardens Marriott and William T. Dwyer High School.
