Sports Commission Announces Newly Elected Officers and Board Members

WEST PALM BEACH, FL – The Palm Beach County Sports Commission (PBCSC) is pleased to announce their newly elected officers and board members.   Elections took place during the Palm Beach County Sports Commission Board of Directors meeting held at the Hilton Palm Beach Airport, West Palm Beach, on February 27, 2006.

Joe Weldon of Parks and Recreation for the city of Delray Beach will serve his second consecutive term as President of the PBCSC. Mr. Weldon has been an elected Board Member of the PBCSC since 1995.   He also serves on the Executive Committee and has also served as Vice President, Secretary/Treasure, Chairperson of the Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award Committee and Chairperson of the Youth Fitness Festival Committee.

Gerry Baron of Baron Event Management will continue to assume the responsibilities of Vice President of the PBCSC.  Mr. Baron has been an elected Board Member of the PBCSC since 1999.  He also serves on the Executive Committee and as the Chairperson for the Grant Committee and Facilities Committee.  Mr. Baron has also served as Secretary/Treasurer and Chairperson of Sunshine State Games.

Don Dufresne, a partner in the West Palm Beach office of the law firm of Adorno & Yoss, has been elected and will continue to serve as Secretary/Treasurer of the PBCSC.  Mr. Dufresne has been an appointed Board Member for District 6 since 1999 and has also served as Chairperson of the Golf Tournament Committee, and is a member of the Grants Committee and the Executive Committee.

Elections for Board of Directors members were also held, re-elected with terms expiring in January 2008 were Dr. Ed Eissey, Judy Spring of JBS Destination Solutions, Patty Dent of BankAtlantic, Joe Ceravolo of Palm Beach Community College and Jim Watt of Caldwell & Pacetti.  Ian Black of Palm Beach Gardens Marriott was elected to a first term as a member of the Board of Directors, also expiring January 2008.  Board member Denis Herron of Hilton Palm Beach Airport was appointed to the Executive Committee. 

The officers will begin serving their one-year terms immediately.

The Palm Beach County Sports Commission is a private, non-profit organization contracted by the County to promote and bring sporting events and activities to the area. Goals of the PBCSC are to enhance the economic impact of Palm Beach County, maximize utilization of facilities and stimulate bed tax revenues, primarily in the off-season.

Currently, the PBCSC has over 300 members and 30 members of the Board of Directors (14 appointed, 16 elected). Pam Gerig-Bland has served as Executive Director of the Palm Beach County Sports Commission since 1992.
