April Events

WEST PALM BEACH, FL - The Palm Beach County Sports Commission promotes and markets Palm Beach County as a sports destination and brings sporting events and activities to the County, the following highlights events scheduled for April 2006.

Florida State League Baseball (April 6 – September 3)

The Florida State League Baseball Season begins April 6 as Palm Beach County’s very own Jupiter Hammerheads and Palm Beach Cardinals play on opening day at Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter.  This is the first of 140 games taking place at Roger Dean Stadium from April 6 – September 3.  Palm Beach County is the only place in Florida that hosts two minor league baseball teams.  For more information call (561) 775-1818.

Spin Tech Table Tennis Tournament (April 8-9)

The inaugural Spin Tech Table Tennis Tournament takes place April 8 and 9 at the Village Park Sports Complex in Wellington.  This USA Table Tennis event features highly talented table tennis athletes and showcases one of the participating sports in Palm Beach County’s Community Olympic Development Program. USTA Boys and Girls 12’s Super National Spring Tennis Championship (April 9-15)

The USTA Boys and Girls 12’s Super National Spring Tennis Championships take place at the Delray Beach Tennis Center, the Delray Swim and Racquet Club and the Boca West Country Club April 9-15.  The event is the highest level junior tennis tournament for boys and girls that are 12 years of age and under.  The draw consists of 128 players in each gender division (256 total), consisting of the highest-ranked players in the U.S. competing in singles and doubles competition.  Each player competes in a minimum of four games in four days.  The winners of the fourth day continue competing for the championship based on single elimination.  The event is expected to generate a $950,000 economic impact and create just under 1,000 room nights for Palm Beach County.  For more information contact Mark Baron at (561) 330-6000

BMX Easter Classic (April 15-16)

The BMX Easter Classic is a national event that features riders of all ages traveling from across the country to compete at the Okeeheelee BMX Track in West Palm Beach April 15-16.  Approximately 1,000 athletes compete at what is considered one of the premier events on the National Bicycle League (NBL) calendar.  The event is expected to contribute a $350,000 economic impact and create approximately 600 room nights for Palm Beach County.  For more information contact Renee Savarese at (561) 644-2562

Father Devine Duals and Open Championships (April 22-23)

The Father Devine Duals and Open Championship is a USA Wrestling tournament featuring Freestyle and Greco-Roman competitions.  The event takes place April 22-23 at the Village Park Sports Complex in Wellington.  This is the second consecutive year this prestigious event is taking place in Palm Beach County.  Since making the move to Palm Beach County, the event has grown to a 10-mat tournament that will attract over 500 wrestlers from across the state of Florida.  The event is expected to produce a $200,000 economic impact and create approximately 400 room nights for Palm Beach County.  For more information contact Paul Westfield at (561) 644-2562.
