The C.V. Whitney Cup, first held in 1979, is named in memory of Cornelius Vanderbilt "Sonny" Whitney who, along with his cousin John Hay Whitney, was important polo patrons in the 1930's. The son of Hall of Fame patron Harry Payne Whitney, C.V., won the US Open three times (twice against his brother) and was a famous owner and breeder of thoroughbred horses.
The C.V. Whitney Cup is scheduled to take place from February 15-March 1, 2015. This is a 26 goal polo tournament. The C.V. Whitney Cup is one of the most renowned polo events in the United States. This tournament is a single elimination format.
IPC received a great triumph, when the United States Polo Association awarded IPC the Gold Cup, sealing its place in polo history as the first club to possess the “triple crown” of American polo, with all three 26-goal trophies calling IPC home.
