The Palm Beach County Sports Commission wins bid to host the
Palm Beach County, FL- The Palm Beach County Sports Commission will partner with the Sunshine State Conference (SSC) to host the SSC Tennis Championships at South County Regional Park in Boca Raton, which will be held from Thursday April 18 to Saturday April 20, 2013. Colleges and universities from across the state of Florida will compete in three days of competition to crown a conference champion for both men's and women's teams.
The SSC annually features some of the best tennis teams in NCAA Division II, with conference teams traditionally advancing far into the national tournament. League teams have won a total of 11 men’s and women’s NCAA tennis championships. The SSC is comprised of 9 Florida schools.
South County Regional Park features one of the premier tennis facilities in Palm Beach County. The park maintains 19 lighted all-weather courts. The 2013 conference championship will mark the first time an SSC event has taken place at South County Regional Park and Boca Raton.
The 2013 SSC Championships will feature all seven league men’s teams and the top eight women’s teams, according to the final regular-season standings. Play will begin with quarterfinal matches on Thursday, April 18, and conclude with the championship finals and consolation matches on Saturday, April 20. A total of 21 matches will be played. Each match will feature competition in three doubles and six singles flights. The first team to accumulate five points in those head-to-head matches will win the contest.
Headquartered in Winter Park, FL, the Sunshine State Conference sponsors 16 sports that compete in NCAA Division II. In addition to the tennis championship, the league annually conducts conference championships in cross country, soccer, swimming, basketball, golf, and women’s rowing.
Founded in 1975, the Sunshine State Conference has risen from a single sport organization to the Division II “Conference of National Champions.” Since its inception, the conference has grown steadily in sports played, membership and national prominence. Sunshine State Conference schools have won NCAA national championships (78 total) in baseball, softball, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s soccer, men’s basketball, men’s and women’s tennis and volleyball, and are nationally recognized in men’s and women’s cross country and men's and women's swimming, as well as women’s rowing.
The Palm Beach County Sports Commission is contracted by Palm Beach County to promote and market the County as a sports and sports tourism destination. The Commission brings sporting events and activities to the County, which enhances economic impact, stimulate bed tax revenues (with a focus on the off-season), and maximizes utilization of County facilities.
