One-of-a-Kind Wheelchair Rugby Event Hosted in Palm Beach County

 

WEST PALM BEACH, FL The 11th Annual Knock & Roll Wheelchair Rugby tournament will be taking place January 21-23, 2011 at the Lake Worth Therapeutic Center’s gymnasium.  The Palm Beach County Sports Commission is supporting Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation and the Club Managers Association of America Therapeutic Recreation in hosting this event through its grant program.

 

Wheelchair Rugby is the only organized full contact wheelchair sport in the world today.  The United States Quad Rugby Association sanctions the event.  Wheelchair athletes

   
 
   

from the United States, Canada, Germany, and Great Britain will travel to Palm Beach County for a weekend of intense competition.  The event will host a projected eight teams with 250 participants and is estimated to generate 189 room nights with $109,410 in economic impact. 

 

Games will begin Friday, January 21 at 9am with the last game starting at 7:30pm.  Play will resume on Saturday, January 22 at 9am with the last game beginning at 7:30pm.  On Sunday, January 23 games will begin at 9am and the tournament will conclude with the championship game beginning at 1:30pm.  For a complete tournament schedule and venue directions, visit http://www.quadrugby.com/node/1610.
