Palm Beach County to Host the World’s Top
National Teams for the Olympic Soccer Challenge

On the way to Rio, Olympic finalist teams for Argentina and Colombia, along with Haiti’s National Team will meet at FAU Stadium in Boca Raton

Palm Beach County, FL- The Palm Beach County Sports Commission will partner with Florida Atlantic University and Onside Entertainment, LLC to bring a historic soccer extravaganza to the Palm Beaches. The Olympic Soccer Challenge, an inaugural global soccer event, will showcase two marquee soccer games in Palm Beach County, which includes the highest ranked men’s soccer team in the world. Onside Entertainment, a sports event production company that specializes in bringing the best soccer teams from Latin America to play in the United States, will feature two Olympic-bound teams in these two soccer matches.  The games will take place at FAU Stadium on the campus of Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton.

The first match at FAU Stadium is set to take place on Thursday, July 21 at 7:00 p.m. between the Olympic teams of Argentina and Colombia. On Sunday, July 24 at 5:00 p.m., FAU Stadium will witness Argentina compete against Haiti. These nations represent a hotbed for soccer.  Argentina is currently home to the top ranked team on the globe according to the FIFA world rankings while Colombia is ranked #3 in the world.  Haiti is home to an emerging team that is leaving a proud footprint for its nation.

"We can never get enough sports. We have lived some very exciting months with different sporting events on both television and live in our stadiums here in South Florida. On the way to Rio 2016, these teams promise to deliver games filled with excitement and adrenaline, characteristic elements of soccer, the world's most exciting sport," said Alex Ganly and JP Reynal, members of the organizing team for the match, adding, “our promise is to continue to elevate sporting events to their highest levels, and this tour will be a taste of all the feelings that will be experienced as of August 5 in Rio 2016."

Palm Beach County has become a premier destination for soccer.  FAU Stadium, which allows for a seating capacity of nearly 30,000 spectators, has developed a robust portfolio of world class soccer.   FAU Stadium has hosted the United States Men’s and Women’s National Teams on multiple occasions.  Germany defeated Ecuador at FAU Stadium in preparation for their 2014 FIFA Men’s World Cup Championship. FAU Stadium also experienced the pinnacle of collegiate soccer by hosting the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Women’s College Cup (National Championship) in December of 2014.  Few communities in Florida can rival Palm Beach County’s resume for soccer events. 

In addition to the thrilling soccer action, Palm Beach County will receive significant economic benefits from hosting this international soccer event. The games will attract soccer enthusiasts from across the region and globe.
