The Florida Lacrosse Cup is Back in 2017 Connecting Pro and Youth Lacrosse In Boca Ratonand Delray Beach
Palm Beach County, FL – The Florida Lacrosse Cup is back and once again joins forces with the Palm Beach County Sports Commission and the Florida Launch of Major League Lacrosse (MLL) for a great weekend of lacrosse, June 17-18, 2017. The tournament will once again be played at the Seacrest Soccer Complex in Delray Beach, but will add a new venue with the pristine fields of Countess de Hoernle Park at Spanish River Athletic Facilities in Boca Raton. Because of the partnership with the Florida Launch, the Florida Lacrosse Cup gives all registered players and coaches tickets to the Launch home game at Florida Atlantic University (FAU) Stadium on Saturday night, June 17th against the Atlanta Blaze. “That’s one of the most exciting things about the weekend,” said tournament director, Lew Hamilton. “The interaction between the Launch and the tournament creates indelible memories as well as creates the direct connection between youth and professional lacrosse that is vital to the continued growth of the sport on both levels.”
The Florida Lacrosse Cup will feature over 60 youth lacrosse teams, consisting of more than 1,200 athletes and over 3,000 total visitors from across Florida and the southeast United States. The tournament will offer Boys U9, U11, U13, U15 and Girls Middle School and High School age groups, and each age group will feature a Gold and Silver Division to enable better matched competition. The U9 Boys will field separate brackets for the standard field 10v10 format and the new US Lacrosse-supported 7v7 modified field format. “The Palm Beach County Sports Commission is thrilled the Florida Lacrosse Cup is back in 2017, and we are very excited about the growth this tournament has made,” said George Linley, Executive Director of the Palm Beach County Sports Commission. “With teams coming from all over the state of Florida and the southeast United States, the Florida Lacrosse Cup will generate an influx of business to palm Beach County’s hospitality industry.”
On the playing field, the Florida Lacrosse Cup offers competitors the best opportunity to let their hard work determine the outcome of games. The tournament features three-referee crews with time and score kept by an official assuring full-length games are played. The tournament is a Gatorade-sponsored event with hydration stations set up on every sideline offering the sports drink as well as water and Gatorade protein bars to athletes needing to replenish during competition. Event sponsors have created custom prizes for standout performers in each division and are busy planning on ways to top 2016’s fun-filled, interactive vendor village.
One of the 2016 tournament highlights was the great interaction between the professional players and the tournament athletes throughout the weekend – something that will reprise this summer. “We are very much looking forward to the athletes from the Florida Lacrosse Cup to come back to FAU Stadium in Boca Raton and cheer on the Launch against the Atlanta Blaze,” says Michael Zeff, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for the Florida Launch. “Launch players, coaches and the front office love to connect with the future of our sport and our relationship with the Florida Lacrosse Cup is a great way to do that.”
