The 13th annual Summer Smash Sectional Championships, one of Florida’s premier summer tennis tournaments, has returned elite-level tennis to multiple venues in Palm Beach County. The event takes place over two weekends with the boy’s edition having taken place August 21-23 and the girls’ edition set for August 28-30 at the Delray Swim & Tennis Club (Delray Beach, FL), One Tennis Academy at Boca Lago Country Club (Boca Raton, FL), Boca West Country Club (Boca Raton, FL) and Palm Beach Gardens Tennis Center (Palm Beach Gardens, FL).
Over 500 players will compete throughout the two-weekend event. With the influx of players, their families, and personal coaches, the Palm Beach County Sports Commission projects a strong economic impact for Palm Beach County. In 2019, the last time the event was held before COVID-19 protocols limited the event’s size, the Summer Smash Sectional Championships generated over $300,000 in direct visitor spending.
PIM, based in Delray Beach, is the event organizer for the Summer Smash Sectional Championships as well as a variety of USTA sanctioned events in The Palm Beaches on an annual basis. Beyond youth tennis, PIM produces the Delray Beach Open, a long-running staple of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Tour.
The event’s four venues represent some of the best tennis facilities in Florida. The Delray Swim & Tennis Club, the second location of the famed Delray Beach Tennis Center, features 24 clay courts and a clubhouse that has a pro shop with merchandise and locker rooms. One Tennis Academy at Boca Lago Country Club consists of 14 clay courts, four hard courts, and houses two soccer fields with an attached pro shop. Boca West Country Club boasts 29 hydro tennis courts and eight pickleball courts. The Palm Beach Gardens Tennis Center features 20 state-of-the-art hydro-grid clay courts and was recently recognized as a 2021 USTA Outstanding Facility.
